How do I start my own line of greeting cards?

Most of the time, you have to become a "brand name" before you can establish a market for yourself.

One thing you might consider first is doing plaques with poetry, or framed poetry with art (if you're the artist), start selling them at bazaars and flea markets as limited editions. Make sure you know who your market is and who will be most responsive.

If you're doing cards that are more risque, you might consider self marketing to convenience stores or head shoppes, tattoo parlours and such.

For unknowns who are just starting out, it's always best to collaborate with a small group of other folks in order to get started. There is strength in numbers. Also, declare a name for yourself and call onto the places you will be doing business, not as an artist, but as a representative of the "business enitity" that you are calling yourself. Get a DBA with your local courthouse. It's inexpensive.

You would first need to do a sample study to see if anyone would be interested in your product. If that works you can go on with starting your business. If not you cold just make them for fun and your own enjoyment. Creation and marketing is what will get you through in that business.
